What I Drink When I Say “I’m Gonna Live Forever”

You know I’m a big fan of rituals.

We’ve all heard that “practice makes perfect” or that “we are what we repeatedly do” or the most spiritual of them all, “Just Do It.” Nike, you get me every time.

Rituals (rit/choo/al): the things we wake up and do every day (even on weekends) with such routine that they become unconscious

I have quite a few rituals, but the other day my husband was poking fun at how many “liquid” rituals I have. I never thought about it, but he’s right. I drink a lot of weird stuff every day.

Now that I have a kid, a mom haircut, and I’m one step away from owning a mom van (are these so uncool that they’ve become cool, like my drop-crotch pants?!), I won’t give you another lecture about drinking half your body weight in ounces of purified water.

No, this is cooler than that.

I’m sharing all of my liquid rituals with you. Don’t be overwhelmed by this list, just try to incorporate the practices that speak to you. Even adding one of these on most days would be extremely beneficial.

#1: Lemon Water

Every morning, I drink 16-20 ounces of filtered water with a half of a lemon squeezed into it within the first 30 minutes of waking.

This ritual:

  • Flushes my liver
  • Hydrates my body
  • Cleanses my blood

#2: Celery Juice

Fifteen minutes after I consume my lemon water, I drink 12-16 ounces of fresh celery juice.

I know this is super trendy right now. I also don’t feel super jazzed about the healing benefits of this being reported by only one source (Medical Medium, Anthony Williams).

Not having fully backed science by multiple trusted sources always raises a red flag for me, so why am I on the bandwagon?

The testimonials are overwhelming. Also, I feel really good when I drink it so my body tells me to continue.

This ritual:

  • Lowers inflammation
  • Helps heal digestion
  • Is great for skin (acne, psoriasis, eczema)
  • Protects liver health
  • Helps lower high cholesterol

#3: Quinton

Fifteen or so minutes after this, I drink 2 tsp of Quinton trace minerals. Quinton contains up to 78 of nature's essential minerals and trace elements the body relies on for cellular health. It’s essentially raw, unheated trace minerals from seawater. Hmmmm…. salty.

I take 2 tsp of the hypertonic formula in the morning, and 2 tsp of the isotonic formula in the afternoon. I don’t know the science behind the dosage, I just do what I’m told.

This ritual:

  • Improves cellular health
  • Provides gentle detoxification
  • Supports immune system

#4: Smoothie

Every day I drink a smoothie. I think of a smoothie as an opportunity to put as many healing foods into my body as possible without chewing.

Some of the superfoods I rotate into my smoothies: frozen cauliflower, spirulina powder, barley grass juice powder, MCT oil, wild blueberry powder, hemp seeds, fresh ground flaxseed, chia seeds, raw cacao, collagen, and pre-ground unicorn horn powder. Ok, I’m lying about the last one, I just wanted to make sure you were still reading.

#5: Green Juice

Almost every day I drink a green juice that has a combination of vegetables, herbs, roots, and some fruit.

Some of the superfoods I rotate into my juices: ginger root, turmeric root, mint, parsley, bok choy, lemon, cucumber, swiss chard, kale, apples, and pears.

If you don’t have a juicer or if you travel often (or have kids who hate to eat veggies), try mixing this Organic Greens Powder in water or a smoothie.

#6: Nut Milk

Every day I drink homemade nut milk in my smoothies. I rotate the nuts so that I get different nutrition depending on the day. Cashews (which you don’t have to soak or strain so this is the quickest and easiest to make!), almonds, brazil nuts, pistachios (my favorite), and pecans.

Moms out there, now that Tillie is a year old, I’m making her nut milk. Almond milk has more calcium than cow’s milk and is raw, hormone and chemical-free. On a good day, I add dates, vitamin D drops, omega 3 liquid, and fresh vanilla bean to her nut milk. When I haven’t slept, that little monster gets nuts, water and salt like the rest of us.

#7: Adaptogens

Every night I drink Tulsi tea with Sun Potion herbal Yin Power or some other herbal concoction. Yin power contains powerful ayurvedic herbs and tonics to support my adrenals, hormonal system, and immune system. It’s not the tastiest tonic, which is why I mix it with a Tulsi tea bag, which offers added adrenal support.

This ritual promotes:

  • Hormonal balance
  • Stress relief
  • Mental Clarity
  • Immunity and energy
  • Emotional equilibrium

#8: Bubbly Water

Every day I drink a Topo Chico for no nutritional reason whatsoever other than the bubbles burn so good. #waterfrommexico

Do I do all of these on a daily basis? I try to, but there are definitely some days where one or two get skipped.

As much as I like to make these rituals a daily habit, there’s a balance that prevents perfectionism from driving us crazy. When starting something new, I encourage you to keep it as consistent as possible, but over time, there’s a natural ebb and flow that keeps habits from becoming unhealthy obsessions.

Going on vacation? Take a break from all of this and then start it again when you get home.
