The Best Mind Trick For Getting Through The Holidays

There are less than 6 weeks left in 2019 and you are either thinking one of two things:

1. There’s still time to get a good start, continue kicking butt, or finish strong!

2. It’s too late now. Bring on the holiday treats! 2020 is totally my year for transformation!

I love this quote from Eckhart Tolle: "as you get closer to enlightenment, the monkey mind will try to hold you back with thoughts of chaos and fear."

In other words, as we work towards better health, happiness, vitality, and balance, the mind’s inner narrative (bullsh*t chatter) will try to sabotage our efforts.

Does this resonate?

Perhaps you have every intention to exercise, eat right or meditate, and then some story comes up about “not having enough time.” Or if you’re like me you will do every possible thing on your to-do list instead. I have a workout planned after I write this… does someone’s kitty litter need scooping?

I want you to expect that these thoughts will come up throughout the duration of this season.

My best advice to you is to do the work and show up for yourself like you are getting paid.

Imagine if someone was paying you to workout, make a healthy dinner or sit and meditate! Does time all of a sudden appear from nowhere? Money talks, baybaaay. I know what you’re thinking, “but, no one is paying me.” You do get paid though, not in money, but in success.

I have these thoughts on a daily basis as well, and the mantra I use to bring me back to sanity is this:

I’m not willing to give up what I want most for what I want right now.

This mantra will only work for you if you are crystal clear on what it is you want most for your life, so it’s time to whip out a pen (so old school) and give yourself five minutes to get clear.

✏️ Journal Entry: 5-30 minutes

As you enter the holiday whirlwind of instant gratification, social pressures, and time constraints, you need to have a crystal clear vision of what you aren’t willing to sacrifice.

Think about it this way: you won’t show up at Aunt Fanny’s house for Thanksgiving if she doesn’t give you her address. You need to know your end goal before you begin your journey!

Open your journal and write at the top: My vision for my ideal health and wellness is...

Vulnerability Alert! I am asking for your trust in allowing me to guide you through this season, so I am going to share my ideal health vision with you. I want you to know me on a deeper level, but I also want you to understand the importance of being crystal clear and detailed with what you write.

*Please write your list from a positive, not negative, mindset ("experience strong immune function" vs. "not get sick").

My Vision of Ideal Health:

  • Wake up each day with a renewed sense of energy, empowerment and gratitude
  • Feel sexy when I look in the mirror and be bikini-ready at any moment
  • Have the energy and desire to exercise and work hard
  • Experience strong immune system function and feel great all winter
  • Fit into my skinny jeans from the dryer - ladies, you know...
  • Have glowing skin
  • Love my body, live with gratitude, positive attitude always
  • Healthy and mindful relationship with food

Feel free to make this your own... but of course, you can use mine, I love to share.

When you write this list, make sure you are feeling good in your body. Watch for the negative thoughts like "you will never have this" or "you can't do this" and let them pass through you. This is your master manifestation list. Keep it close by, I want you to be looking at it every day.

The next most important piece of this exercise is to write your "why."

Why do you want these things?

What will they allow you to experience in your life that you otherwise would not be able to access? This "why" is the link that connects you to these ideas on a deeper level.

My Why:

“I must achieve all of these things because they will allow me a deeper level of happiness. I will be able to live my best life, be more present and aware, show up for other people, and have more fun. I want to look back at my life and feel love for myself, knowing that I did everything in my power to truly live and experience all life has to offer me.”

Once you finish this, set an alarm on your phone that prompts you to look at this daily. Keep this in a place where it is easily accessible.

Clarity creates motivation, motivation creates results.

And that’s how you close out 2019 like you deserve!
